Blender separate mesh. The reason they are one object is because you are adding new meshes in edit mode. I have a very basic rigging question. Left click to select object. Hold shift to select other object or objects.

In edit mode to separate a selection choose the elements to be included in the resulting new object and from the main mesh menu upper left click separate then an appropriate option mesh separate option or press p to display the separate quick access menu. In your case just select all and press p and choose to separate all loose.
Left click to select first object. I m messing around with blenrig and with characters created by makehuman. Separates fragments based on the materials assigned to the different faces. Select the area you wish to separate.
Press p then click selection exit edit mode to select each individual object. Up until now when i have an object that consists of multiple separate meshes i ve. Press tab to enter edit mode. The p key is to separate.
Once blender has finished splitting the mesh go to object mode and click on the different parts of the original mesh. By default when you add a mesh object it appears in editmode. When i import a makehuman character into blender the character will consist of multiple mesh objects like one mesh for the overall body one for the eyebrows one for the eyeballs and so on. For example if your mesh uses a material for the body and another material for the dress sandals and underwear using this option your mesh will be splitting in two separating the body from the rest of the mesh.
