The two main reasons for booking the superliner bedroom are privacy and comfort. All bedrooms are located on the upper level of the double decker superliner train cars the rooms being 10 plus feet above the platform means no one at the station stops can see into your room so you can keep your curtains drawn.

The bedroom takes up the entire width of the train car and has windows on each side of the train. Bedrooms are furnished with a large sofa and an easy chair next to a large window. When not in sleeper mode there is one sofa and two chairs in the family bedroom. I should note here that there are two additional bedrooms on the lower level of every superliner sleeping car.

One is a family bedroom which has two adult size berths and two smaller ones for children. The room has a large sofa bench that can sit at least three to four people. The family bedroom spans the entire width of the car and features two large windows. Bedrooms feature a sink and a private enclosed restroom with toilet and shower.

The other is a so called accessible bedroom which will accommodate someone in a wheelchair plus a companion. The superliner bedroom is ideal for two passengers but can fit three. The amtrak family bedroom was a great experience for our first overnight train ride in the united states. Our train had three sleeping cars and there is only one family bedroom per car.

Since the entire journey was 52 hours we had to decide whether to travel by coach seats or the superliner roomette. California zephyr has double decker cars providing a better view of the passing scenery.
