Can You Use Brita Filtered Water In A Humidifier
Filtered water alone isn t enough to prevent microorganism growth in humidifiers.
Can you use brita filtered water in a humidifier. But brita filtered water is no substitute for distilled or even reverse osmosis water for use in your humidifiers. After all having to buy a new humidifier is definitely more expensive than using properly filtered water. The exchange ion resin in the filter lowers the concentration of calcium carbonates accordingly softening tap water. I was advised to filter tap water.
It is a filter for non dissolved particles in the water and not for dissolved solids like salts. A brita filter may help slightly but you will most likely still see mineral buildup on the heating element. In addition to using proper water regular cleaning can remove potentially harmful microorganisms from the humidifier and prevent those microorganisms from spewing into the air. There are additives that can be used but they are not for warm mist humidifiers though.
It is therefore better to use brita water in a humidifier if you do not have access to distilled water. I found using brita water filters works and the cost is lower than purchasing distilled water. You certainly can use brita filtered water in your humidifier. The type of humidifier you currently use or plan to purchase in the near future isn t important.
